"Oh no, I'm going to get a bad review from someone who was going to give me a bad review anyways!"

Boomer demands premium hardware on a job that I did for free and paid for the parts out of pocket. Boomer Story I am a locksmith.
  • 03
Since 2020, quality of hardware has plummeted on every brand. There have been multiple locks with problems with them from every company. Yesterday I installed a knob for a baby boomer.
  • 04
I only charged her for the appointment and the hardware, did not charge for labor, and gave her a veterans discount despite not being a veteran. Well the knob I put on was faulty.
  • 05
Not to bore you with the details, but it had a bad spring that allowed the knob to pop off. I completely refund her, eating the cost of gas and the hardware. She demands I replace it with a different brand.
  • 06
I go to the hardware store and grab a mid level lever for her. I install it, again all of this for free at this point while paying for the lever out of my own pocket.
  • 07
When I am done she looks at it and says "I'm really not happy with this one I want you to go get a better one". I tell her that I'm paying for this out of my own pocket and installing it for free.
  • 08
She says she should be compensated for having to call me back out. Finally I just tell her point-blank "no" remind her that I'm paying out of my own pocket and have a family to feed.
  • 09
She told me it's not her problem and I need to make her happy I ask her if after I replace it with a more expensive knob if she feels that we should give her financial compensation on top of everything else.
  • 10
Without hesitation she says yes I think $100 should be fair. I take the lever off and tell her I'll be back. Drove off and blocked her number. Oh no, I'm going to get a bad review from someone who was going to give me a bad review anyways!

    Inshpincter_Gadget ⚫ I like how you de-handled that situation.

JustNKayce TBF, it's really easy to put on a door handle. Not sure why she even called you. I am a female Gen Jones Boomer and I have always installed my own hardware and locks. But, clearly she can't lower herself to do manual labor so now she will get to pay a premium price hopefully!! LOL

pkinetics. They want to complain to the manager. Can't complain about their own work

thedudeabidesOG Millennial When she leaves you a bad review let her have it. the NextDoor app I'd even blast her on it too. but No good deed goes unpunished...

JustNKayce My brother did a similar favor for someone for free. The guy bitched about something about it. Brother says, "Do you want your money back?" And of course has never helped that guy out again. People are crazy.

Head Razzmatazz7174. Oh, that's some seriously entitled After all that, with you eating the cost of installing it the second time, plus the hardware, she still
  • 19
thought she was entitled to both a free knob, plus free labor, plus extra money? I started laughing when you took off the second lever, drove off, and then blocked her. That was glorious.

Spiritual_Oil_7411 I don't understand why you were paying for anything out of pocket to start. If she were paying for the handle, she could get whatever upgrade she wanted. No good deed goes unpunished, you handled this perfectly
